News Letter #11

Hello Freshman Blue!
WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! Is all I can say! I am so proud of our boys! We are heading to the Super Bowl!!!

The Super Bowl against Brandon Junior Blackhawksis Saturday, November 7th at 2pm @ The Shark Tank in Auburn Hills. 1800 Valley View Drive. The Players and Coaches WILL be taking the Chiefs bus!!!! Yeah! Please plan to arrive @ PKE @ 11:15am. If you would like to contribute to the cost of the bus, please see me. Because we are meeting so early, the Directors have planned an extra snack of Nutrigrain bars and will be donating them. Please remember playoff rules do not allow us to tailgate prior or after any game. Please note there is an entry fee for playoff games. Playoff tickets are purchased at the event. Ticket prices are $3 per person, $10 per family, NYFL athletes in their Chiefs jersey or cheerleading tops are no-charge and children 6 years old or younger are no-charge. Bring your players poster to the game and hang from the fence.

We are planning on Post-game at Overtyme to celebrate!!!! No matter the outcome and we have a lot to celebrate as Division Champs and a great family. I think we will be celebrating even more!

The Chiefs Banquet is Sunday, November 8th 5-7pm @ Clarkston Junior High School. The players should wear their jerseys. There is no charge for this event, and there is no food or beverages offered. There will be a mini-video/speech, trophies, yearbooks Iron Man and team awards. This is a joint event with JV Blue and the Cheer Teams which support us. There will be Sports Photos and Spirit Wear available for purchase.

Equipment Turn-in is Monday, November 9th from 5-6:30p @ PKE practice fields near the equipment trailer. Coach has made the offer that if you want to give him your equipment/uniforms (less game jersey) on Sunday, he will turn in for you. Please have it labeled with your name and inventory – noting any missing or damaged items. Please note we are the last to turn our equipment in – others teams are doing so this week – so Monday is our only organized opportunity to do it. Please make this easy on Coach and I, by doing this as scheduled!

Also, noteworthy, did you notice all of the support we got at the last game – wasn’t it awesome. Did you notice that prior to leaving Bullfrogs, they had already changed their outdoor sign to congratulate us? Even in Brandon County! I am so proud. Please note Lowery’s Landscape also has congratulations up on their sign. It has been such a great season!!!

GO BLUE!!!!!

National Division Championship

Clarkston - 29 Pontiac - 7

Again the Chiefs show why they are champs. Dominance in every aspect of the game. Coach Nicklin had them prepared and a great game plan to beat the Panthers. But Pontiac never gave up. They fought to the end but the Chiefs kept them from the endzone except one time near the end.

Play of the Game

Jay'vier Suggs blowing through the line for a touch down to seal the Panthers fate. Proud dad, James, was able to run along the sidelines every step of the way with him. Can you tell he's happy? What an awesome moment for him.

Newsletter #9

Hello Blue Families!

I am looking forward to another great game! I cannot believe it is time for our last regular season game! Our play-off seat is all that is keeping away the great depression in our house! OK - so as we keep our mind on that last game, for which the times/locations are now confirmed - our game VS. Lake Orion @ 12 noon Sunday, October 18th at Brandon’s Varsity Field (this is not the stadium field), the address is 209 Varsity Drive Ortonville, MI 48462. Please plan to have your player there by 10:15 am. For those staying after early arrival - our Moms, led by Dawn Burtnett have planned a light pre-tailgate with coffee and goodies - all are welcome.

Our Banquet is going to be a great success - we have now heard from all families and have a great turn-out. Please remember to give your donations to your directors today at practice. Again, if anyone has any challenges with that, please call me or Coach. Remember October 25th 4-8pm, it is casual and kids should bring their swimwear!

Please remember Play-Off Season practice begins next week - we will schedule same as regular season, Tuesday through Friday at PKE: 5:30 (arrive by 5:15, please) - 7:30. Friday is a home football game for the Wolves - so we will let out at 7:00pm. Mary Clark is scheduling volunteers for our playoff games, please see her if you are interested.

Finally, I hope that you all took advantage of the Scholar Athlete award if your player was a returning athlete with great grades and community activism. There is now a second award that you should have heard about from the Chiefs organization email, the All American Honors Award. If not, I have attached it here. It is a simple and short form, please review it to see if your child is eligible for this special award, it does not require you to be second year, and the deadline is approaching.

I have to tell you a quick story - you all know I was chairing the conference dinners at my elementary and missed two nights of practice this week. With Two chiefs and the big guy - they know I am a Chief...I heard so many wonderful comments about our (all of our) Chiefs- they all told me how excited they were to see Chiefs jerseys walk into their room on the first day of school- they knew immediately that they had good citizens, responsible, dedicated and respectful. That made me very proud!

With that, LET'S GO BLUE!

Newsletter #8 October 8, 2009

Hello Freshman Blue,

Game time this weekend is 12noon on Sunday, please plan to arrive at Clarkston High School at 10:15 am. Let's go BLUE!!!!
Mary Clark has sent out the volunteer reminders and we are still in need of help, please contact Mary if you are available @ clarks0408@comcast.net. Also, Mary has sent out info relative to a post game tailgate - we hope to see you all there!

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the boy's performances and victories. This has really been a fun season filled with lots of great kids and families. I know Tom and I have enjoyed getting to know all of you. It is with that, that I want to share a little info with you relative to the upcoming events. First is our own Freshman Blue Banquet - which will be held Sunday, October 25th from 4-8pm @ Deer Lake Athletic Club. This is a family event and will be dress casual and focus on our players. We will have dinner, see a team video, listen to a coaches speech recognizing the boys (we have lots of surprises in mind). Finally, the boys will be allowed to swim and just "have fun" together. The cost of the event is not yet finalized, we will request family donations in order to include families. I will need rsvp by October 14. In support of one of the surprises for the evening, Karen Fluegel will be contacting you in request of some special information from your player. A quick response to that information will help us greatly. I am really looking forward to this fun event. There will also be a Chief's wide Organizational 40th Year Anniversary Event on Monday, November 9th @ Mount Zion where the team awards will be handed out including IRON MAN- there is no cost for this event, and this year no food will be served.

I hope you have all taken a moment to check out the Freshman Blue Site that John Heine has created...it is very cool, I include the link here. On the site you find great photos, game videos, newsletters and much more. John, we thank you for all of your efforts - this is fun! http://chiefsfreshmanblue.blogspot.com/

Please remember there was an extension granted on registering for the post season tournament in North Carolina - information has been handed out - though if you still have questions, please see me.

Returning Chiefs players please note - this is a great program that every 2nd year (or more) Chief should take advantage of! Please let me know if you have any questions are concerned with the deadline. Our own Stephanie Jensen is chairing this and can help to answer any questions - the boys earn a US savings Bond for their academic and social excellence!
Scholar Athlete Award Applications Due Tomorrow!
Qualifying Clarkston Chiefs returning athletes can now apply for the 2009 Scholar Athlete Award. The Scholar Athlete program honors athletes at the 2009 Awards Ceremony for their academic achievements and community service. The 2009 Scholar Athlete application is now available for download from the Clarkston Chiefs website (www.clarkstonchiefs.org) and the application must be postmarked by tomorrow, October 9th.

Go Chiefs!
